Should the Kempton School be closed

New Bedford School Superintendent Pia Durkin made the announcement Wednesday night at a School Committee meeting, She listed Kempton as one of the possible cuts to bring the cities schools budget under control . The School Committee would have to take a vote before closing the School.

According to the Standard Times , Parents were informed of the possibility of the closing in a letter sent home with students Wednesday, There are a little over one hundred students at Kempton and they would be directed to other school. Money would also be saved on busing.

This is never an easy situation, elected leaders and parents have to navigate and determine whats best for the students and the school system. New Bedford suffers from the same budget problems that many cities face .

Too many expenses and not enough money. With any luck Parents , students , elected officails and the community will do whats right.
