After reading Loren's advice to her teenaged self, I was inspired.  I thought back to myself as a high school senior.  Man, I was such a kid!  I thought I knew it all.  So, here are 10 pieces of advice I'd give a younger version of Michael Rock throughout the years.

1.  Don't worry so much about girls.  After spending 4 years at an all boys school, my heart would race if a college girl would do the simplest of things (like twirl their hair or chew gum or walk or talk or breathe).

2.  Speaking  of girls, don't ever let a girl come between you and your family.  If your mom doesn't like a girl that you are dating...chances are she's RIGHT ON THE MONEY.  Mother's intuition is strong!  That brings me to number three.

3.  Listen to your parents more.  Now that I am a parent, I know that I would NEVER EVER EVER in a million years steer my kids wrong.  There's never a MOMENT that I'm not trying to make their lives better in any and every possible way I can.  If you have parents like this, it's probably safe to say that you can trust their opinion.  Growing up, I should have adopted EVERY SINGLE piece of advice my parents offered.

4.  Make sure to start a 401K as soon as you possibly can.  It is NEVER too early.  Save what you can.  And DON'T use credit cards.  Your future self will thank you.

5.  Check yo' self before you wreck yo' self.  When I first started at Fun 107 as 21 year old kid, I probably came on a little too strong...a little too confident.  I probably should have done much more listening and much less talking.

6.  Don't be afraid to fail.  When I first started working here, I tried SO HARD to try to always be perfect and not make mistakes.  I would tell "new Fun 107 guy Michael Rock" that if you aren't failing sometimes...you're not trying hard enough.

7.  Don't buy so many new cars!  I bought a brand new car every two years when I was in my 20's.  Now, I don't give a damn about having the newest, coolest car.  I'd so much rather put that money towards my home.

8.  Go on more vacations.  Take time off from work.  You need vacation to be a productive worker.  It's also important to get away and create memories.  Think about all the things you invest in over the course of your life.  ALL of these things will go away at some point...but you'll always have your memories from great experiences and vacations.

9.  Don't worry...the babies will grow up.  The baby stage freaked me out when we were new parents.  I felt like my wife and I would never get our lives back.  In a sense, that was TRUE...our former lives were gone, but our new lives are enriched by two great kids who don't throw up every 5 minutes and sleep for more than 2 hour chunks at a time.

10.  Start Crossfit earlier.  When the Crossfit craze hit, I was afraid of it.  I thought you had to be an elite athlete to be able to compete.  I wish I had started Crossfit YEARS ago. It's one of my favorite places to be when I'm not at home or at Fun 107.
