On the Southcoast we toss around the names of New Bedford, Fall River, Dartmouth, Fairhaven and so on. Let us not forget about the sleepy little town, with a whole lot to offer, called Westport! 

People who live in Westport love it. The town is charming, and falls right in the middle of the Southcoast. Fantastic beaches, and great local businesses are just a couple reasons you should be checking out Westport.

1. Wood's Ice Cream

This family-owned ice cream stand is known for its gigantic portions and unique flavors like Bear Claw and Lobster Tracks. Wood’s is perfect for a sweet treat and great for kids because there’s a gang of goats that hang out in the pasture next door; they love ice cream (especially the cones) almost as much as we do.

2. The Brunch at Bittersweet

Every first Sunday of the month, Bittersweet Farms hosts a brunch spectacular. Known as the Grand Brunch, Bittersweet offers a spread that is second to none. Listen to soft acoustic music while you dine and enjoy breakfast, lunch or a combination of the two from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

3. Handy Hill Creamery

Located right off of Route 88, Handy Hill serves soft serve and hard ice cream along with dozens of “quick” dinner and lunch options. Grab a burger, clam cakes or even a lobster roll on your way home from the beach and finish it off with a sundae that will make your head spin.

4. Partner's Village Store and Kitchen

This village shop located inside a beautifully renovated Victorian home has everything from shopping to dining to writer’s workshops right in one place. Enjoy lunch on the wraparound porch or browse the book collection for local reads.

5. Buzzard's Bay Brewing

Home of Just Beer, Buzzard’s Bay boasts a river-front brewery that offers free tastings Thursday through Saturday. They use water right from the Westport River in their brews and grow their own grapes and hay on their farm. A local legend, Buzzard’s Bay concocts ales like the WestPorter and Undrinkable Ale. Well worth the sampling, trust us.
