A New Bedford jury has awarded $300,000 to an anonymous plaintiff who accused Albert Vaillancourt, a long-time Fall River Catholic school teacher, of sexually abusing him.

According to Herald News, the anonymous plaintiff was a 10- year old student in the 1980's when the alleged attacks occurred. During the recent civil trial at the New Bedford Superior Court a civil person testified against Vaillancourt.

Both of these sexual assaults were said to happen at the Fall River Catholic Youth Organization building. The plaintiff testified that Vaillancourt was his teacher in the sixth-grade at Notre Dame School in Fall River and abused him on two occasions.

The reason why the civil case is coming to order now is because of a new Massachusetts statues of limitations law that allows a person who was sexually abused as a child to file a lawsuit any time prior to their 53rd birthday.
