After the winter we had on the Southcoast I think we are all ready for summer. It's time to soak up some sun, but you do need to be careful before heading out without any protection.

Today Health has come up with three alternatives to the normal beach staples that people use to avoid the harmful sun-rays.

1. Smart Bracelets

This new smart bracelet syncs to your iPhone to send you alerts warning you if the sun’s UV index is too high. The JUNE bracelet designed by Netamo sends you notifications like, “It’s time to reapply sunscreen” or “You should put on your sunglasses.” This super accessory is not only useful, but it is fashionable as well.

2. Sunscreen Pills

Heliocare supplements provide antioxidants to help your skin and can protect your skin from sun damage. New York City dermatologist Doris Day suggests that people take supplements twice a day during the summer.

The pills don’t replace sunscreen, but they can give you mild sun protection.

3. Eat more greens

Some foods, especially leafy greens, have antioxidants in them too. Eating antioxidant-rich foods like green, leafy vegetables, olive oils and almonds could help your body fight off sun rays.

Keep these suggestions in mind and don't forget to pack your sunscreen and floppy hat before enjoying a day at the beach!
