We're back at it again for the 24th year in a row!  Cans Across the Park, held every year at Buttonwood Park, has continuously helped the United Way of Greater New Bedford stock area food pantries for the holidays.

In previous years, the community has dropped off food by the truckloads and we hope to get even more this year. However, this year we are making a few changes to our drop-off day.

This year, we are asking the community to drop off their items at the Buttonwood Park warming house.  Inside, we will have volunteers help us sort the items right on site. Our goal is to raise enough food to create 500 Thanksgiving Day baskets, each inclusive of 2 vegetables, potatoes or rice, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and breakfast items.

Please consider joining us along with our sponsors, Blount Clam Shack & Soup Store,  DeMello's Furniture, Apollo Pools & Spa, Complete Care Care and St. Anne's Credit Union and help us reach our goal.

Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Date: Saturday 11/12/16

Location: Buttonwood Park outside of the warming house. (Map here)

Items being accepted: non-perishables and canned goods including:

  • hot and cold cereal
  • pancake mix & syrup
  • peanut butter & jelly
  • dry pasta and pasta sauce
  • rice
  • canned pasta
  • mac & cheese
  • cornbread mix
  • instant mashed potatoes
  • baked beans
  • soups
  • canned fruits and vegetables
  • tuna fish
  • juices

If you are a school or local organization who wants to get involved, we'd love to hear from you!  Your collection can help jump-start our food drive and make collection day a huge success!
