Wouldn't it be awesome to watch a movie at the theater from a comfy recliner and maybe even enjoy a beer with your popcorn? Well by next year you could be doing just that in Dartmouth.

Though there were some concerns about allowing a bar at a movie theater, the Select Board voted to approve a year-round food and alcohol license for the AMC Theaters at the Dartmouth Mall.

This means the New Year will bring lots of new things to the movies locally.

The Standard Times spoke with George Patterson, senior vice president of food and beverage at AMC, who said $6.1 million worth of upgrades is coming to the AMC theater complex at the Dartmouth Mall.

Upgrades like, self-serve soda fountains, a bar called MacGuffins and allowing customers to pick seats online. There'd also be bigger, comfier seats - which actually reduces the overall number of theater seats from 3,005 to 951. The number of theaters would also go from 12 to 11 after the remodel.

And the remodel may not be that far away. If all permits are approved, construction could start as early as next Monday. And improvements could be ready to enjoy by March 2015. Don't worry if you want to see films now though, the theaters will be open during construction.
